Rotterdam

Tourist in my own country. I had not expected it to be so entertaining. Traveling to Holland on a coach from Shetland (R.G.Jamieson, Cullivoe, Yell) to take part in the annual Shanty Festival in Rotterdam. Da ShantY Yellmen were invited to perform at the festival as part of  the Rotterdam World Harbour days. A great weekend to visit Rotterdam indeed. The old harbours were busheling with vintage ships, all open to the public and even old steam powered cranes were showing of there muscle.
After two and a half days in Rotterdam four more days to see the sites in Holland made it a memorable trip. The Delta sea defences (Deltaplan, Neeltje Jans), The Hague (Madurodam and Panorama Mesdag), Kinderdijk (with its windmills), Gorinchem (pannenkoeken and poffertjes), Slot Loevestein Castle and Woudrichem (with a great reception from the Woudrichem Shanty choir!) and last but not least a visit to Amsterdam. I chose to visit the recently reopened Scheepvaart (Maritime) museum with its fascination multimedia presentations. It was in the restaurant I spotted the stacked child seats, in very familiar colours!
