July 2011

Tallships were arriving in Shetland just about the same time I moved up. Voluntering for the  event was a great experience. Not just meeting a lot of new people but just simply the sight of these ships.

Sailing with what we now see as primative means of transport deserves a lot of respect. Many times over the last few months people made similar remarks to me. Moving from Holland to Shetland, quiting my job, leaving friends and family behind.

Thinking about it,  for me it felt differently. Like you can see in this photograph there are more then one lifeboats on board. And primitive? These large ocean going ships are hightech, green as you ever want them to be and still going strong after a hundred years or more. You just have to learn to trust them.
